Event Type: Literary Group - Book Club
Date: 3/16/2016
Start Time: 7:00 PM
End Time: 9:00 PM
On Wednesday, March 16 at 7:00 PM, The Duncan Branch Book Group will discuss The Road Not Taken by David Orr. The book's subtitle is "Finding America in the Poem Everyone Loves and Almost Everyone Gets Wrong." Mr. Orr, the poetry columnist for the New York Time Book Review, announces his theme in the subtitle, and he make a convincing argument for the true meaning of what is possibly Frost's most well known and beloved poem while tying its meaning to American values and aspirations. Options, expectations, choices, and reflection are explored in the poem's twenty short lines, and Mr. Orr makes a compelling argument that, fully understood, the poem transcends from a personal and simple choice to a metaphor for the American experience in all of its complexities and ambiguities.

Whether you have read the book or not, or whether you understand the poem's true meaning or, like so many others, have been taught to draw the wrong message from it, the evening's discussion should be informative and reflective. I hope you can join us.

The Book Club discussion will take place in the meeting room at Duncan Branch Library, 2501 Commonwealth Avenue in Del Ray. It is jointly sponsored by Duncan Branch and the Friends of Duncan Library.
