Description:
In the Civil War, where one's appearance and speech did not give away one's loyalty, espionage thrived. Many former slaves and some southern Unionists provided valuable knowledge to Union forces and also the same for Confederate forces. Women spies played a significant role in America's bloodiest conflict. Presented by a National Park Service Ranger from the Civil War Defenses of Washington unit.
