Our country was conceived out of activism—the organized resistance of many colonists toward government actions they deemed harmful. In the 20th century, activism evolved to confront issues that were national in scope and required a change in attitude—civil rights, Vietnam war legitimacy and women’s liberation. The 21st century found activism leveraging the internet and social media to spread messages. Professor Gary Midkiff explores the evolution of activism and what it may look like in the future.
