Help change someone’s future…become an adult literacy tutor today! Imagine not being able to read a food label, fill out a job application, or help a child with homework. Many of your neighbors in the Elmhurst area need assistance in learning to read, write, speak and understand English as they struggle with these everyday tasks. Literacy DuPage, in partnership with the Elmhurst Public Library, is offering a way that you can help someone with limited English discover their full potential. Our tutor training teaches people like you how to assist adults by providing one-on-one and small group tutoring at a time and place convenient for you and the adult learner. When you share your time as a volunteer tutor, you can build a mutually rewarding relationship with an adult who needs your help. You will see direct rewards from their work and take pride in helping them become more independent and comfortable members of the community. No teaching background or second language is required. You will be trained to customize lessons focusing on everyday life skills needed in an English-speaking world.
