Event Details

The Authors @ the Teague series is proud to host Shona Patel on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. She will be participating in a discussion of her highly regarded debut novel Teatime for the Firefly. Born under an unlucky star, Layla Roy knows her chances of marriage in 1940s India are virtually nonexistent. However, the unconventional education provided by her grandfather, combined with her own cleverness, allow her to change her fate. Her new life in the famous tea plantations of Assam with her husband, Manik, also marks the start of a new life for India in the wake of fundamental changes wrought by the Second World War. “Patel’s remarkable debut effortlessly transports readers back to India on the brink of independence . . . . enthralling characters, exotic setting, and evocative writing style.”– “Booklist,” starred review. Shona Patel’s adventurous childhood as the daughter of an Assam tea planter helped to inspire the richly authentic world of “Teatime for the Firefly.” An honors graduate in English literature from Calcutta University and a trained graphic designer, she now writes full-time and lives with her husband in Fountain Hills, Arizona. Her website is www.shonapatel.com. Everyone is welcome to attend this free discussion. A limited number of books will be available for purchase and signing.
