A dozen humans (all from the USA) have walked the surface of the Moon. But before Neil Armstrong’s first steps on the Moon, robots had explored the surface to inform both the engineering and science of the Apollo program. Robots from several nations have provided the bulk of what we know about the Moon and Mars. This talk will cover many of the past and present robotic explorers of the Moon and Mars. How these robots work, what they found out, and some of the technology we may see in future robot missions will be discussed by David P. Miller, Professor and Wikonson Chair of Intelligent Systems at the University of Oklahoma.
