Come dressed in your holiday best and have a visit with Santa Claus by the fireplace at the Moors Grille Room! After you have handed him your list you can enjoy some delicious pancakes and sausage. Bring your camera for this one! Registration is limited. All children in attendance (including attending infants) will need to pay registration. Only the children will be served breakfast. Cost: $5.00 per child. Registration is limited to 3 children or 1 family. Registration for all 3 dates is on Tuesday, November 17th at 6:00 p.m. at the Portage District Library. Registration must be done in person and payment is due upon registration.

The Light Show

Come watch an amazing light show! Demonstrations include strobes, infrared, ultra violet, fiber optics,the 7 colors of the spectrum, and portable laser technology. Audience participation and interaction are utilized in a lively, action packed show.

Combat Veterans Writing Group

A series of six evenings of writing poetry, essay or fiction.No writing experience necessary. Led by writer and Communications officer for the Haenicke Institute for Global Education, Margaret von Steinen.

NOVEMBER 6, 2009 MEETING IS CANCELLED DUE TO MICHIGAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION This Morning Investment Discussion Group features informative market discussions, strong coffee, & yummy baked goods. Free-ranging talks may cover a new investment information source, ways to investigate a market sector, or a type of investment vehicle. An optional second hour has been added where you can stay and participate in or lead an evaluation of a stock or other investment . It is led by 20-year veteran investment counselor, accountant, and college finance instructor, Warren Fritz.
Alternate Thursdays from 9:00-10:00 am. First meeting of the month will extend an additional optional hour to discuss a particular stock or fund.

You have looked over some resume books, you have your resume together, and you don’t think you need a class—but it would be good to get somebody else’s opinion on this, particularly somebody knowledgeable. We can help! On the first Friday in February, take your lunch hour and come in. Bring your resume and we will look it over, especially with regard to proofreading, formatting, and language. Let us catch the errors, rather than a potential employer. Reviewers include representatives Michigan Works Employment Services; John Schmitt, Employment Counselor, Region 11 Small Business and Technology Development Center; staff from the Career and Assessment Services department of Kalamazoo Valley Community College; Nicolette Sosulski, Business Librarian; and local business people. If you have questions about your interview attire, you also have the option of wearing or describing that for our review as well.

Friends of the Library Book Sale

The Friends book sales are held six times a year, generally, on the first Saturday of the month from 9 am to 3 pm at the Portage District Library, in the lower level meeting rooms, If you are a member of the Friends, you are also eligible to attend an “early bird” sale on the afternoon before the main book sales, from 4 to 5:30 pm.

A Celebration of Writing

The local Family History Writing Groups invite you to join us for a relaxing evening of reading and reminiscing. Re-live stories written and read by the groups' participants about life on the farm, growing up during the Great Depression, toys of our childhood, and many more. These stories will transport you back in time to the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. Guests are invited to bring along a memory or two of their own to share! Light refreshments follow. Admission is free, Registration is required.
