Scholarly Writing and Publishing for Librarians (Session Two of Two)

This 2-part, full day workshop will cover both beginning and advanced topics for librarians interested in developing and/or enhancing their writing and research skills.
The morning session (9-12) will focus on beginning topics such as How to get started, types of scholarly writing, networking for success, what to expect from peer review, etc.
The afternoon session (1-4) will cover topics more of interest to those already writing and publishing such as So you want to write a book, How to navigate IRB regulations, and Developing a writing support group.

Participants will be contacted prior to the workshop in order to gauge specific topics of interest and to assess needs.

This workshop would be useful to academic librarians or others interested in scholarly writing, especially those who are required to publish as part of their job expectations.

Eleanor I. Cook
Eleanor I. Cook is Assistant Director for Collections & Technical Services at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC, where she has worked since 2008. Prior to this she was the Serials Coordinator at Appalachian State University for 18 years. She has held a number of leadership roles over the years, most notably President of the North American Serials Interest Group (2002-2003) and President of the North Carolina Preservation Consortium (NCPC). She is also active in ALA and NCLA. Eleanor serves as Chief Editor of ACQNET-L, a discussion listserve for those interested in acquisitions issues and also is on the editorial boards of Serials Librarian and Against the Grain.

Becky Donlan
Becky Donlan is Assistant Director for Collection Management at Florida Gulf Coast University, where she has worked since May 2000. A graduate of the University of Iowa School of Library and Information Science, Becky has worked in public and academic libraries since 1990, serving in reference, cataloging, serials, and children’s departments. She served as Chair of the Collections Planning Committee for the State University System (SUS) libraries from 2007-2009 and is a member of the task force developing a shared e-book PDA project for the state university libraries. She was a columnist for The Reference Librarian and is currently Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Interlibrary Loan, Document Delivery, and Electronic Reserve, both published by Taylor & Francis.
