Intermediate Collection Development: Assessment, Policy and Budgets

Event Type: SWFLN Webinar
Date: 8/29/2014
Start Time: 10:00 AM
End Time: 11:00 AM
This is the second session in a series of three webinars on collection development. The second session will dig into how librarians assess and develop collections based on community needs, within the limitations of a budget. It will introduce methods and tools for assessment and for creating a collection development policy.

Academic Library staff will be interested in this workshop because it will help guide decision-making processes in developing collections with increasing costs and tight budgets. We will look at some collection assessment and development tools that are especially useful for academic and research collections.

Public Library staff will find this training beneficial because it will provide information on developing a policy and a plan that best serves a public library’s community within a budget.

School Librarians and Media Specialists will find this webinar useful because it will guide librarians in assessing and developing a plan for a collection that best serves school-age children’s recreational and classroom reading. This is particularly important as curricular requirements and standards are changing.

Special Libraries will be interested in this workshop because it is crucial that development of special collections adheres to the purpose and mission of the library. Special collections are subject specific and greatly benefit from having a policy to guide selection and acquisitions.
