Managing Technology and Technology Expectations for Staff and Customers

Event Type: FLW Statewide Webinars
Date: 8/30/2017
Start Time: 12:00 PM
End Time: 1:00 PM
Description:
Even in wealthy communities, libraries have become the place to learn about and access modern technology, including computers, mobile devices, dedicated e-books, and tools available in Makerspaces and STEAM programs. And there are challenges: dealing with what might be a major, permanent shift regarding the mission of libraries; conflicts among staff regarding old and new duties; and staff overwhelmed by rapid changes in technology, demands of customers, and insufficient funds, personnel, and training. Learn how professional tech people deal with similar issues, and what you can do regarding managing IT expectations of co-workers and library customers.
Topics include: tech pitfalls, setting reasonable goals, recruiting and training the right people, managing risk (aka learning to say no), shifting the library’s focus, signs and cheat sheets, avoiding “”bleeding edge”” solutions, checklist for purchasing technology, and partnering with other agencies.
