|Be a Manager AND a Leader: Confident Coaching|
Event Type: SWFLN Webinar|
Start Time: 2:00 PM
End Time: 3:00 PM
When we hear the word coach, we may picture pulling up a chair beside our employee and walking them through each day. In a sense, that’s true. We don’t have to literally pull up a chair, but we do need to help our employees realize that we are available to give them guidance and feedback as they go about their jobs. When we are willing – and able – to do that, we can often avoid that dreaded discipline problem. I don’t know about you, but any steps I can take to help avoid that situation, I’m “all in”!
Academic Library staff will be interested in this workshop because even though we may feel like we are coaches to our patrons on a daily basis – and we likely are – we may not be as aware of our interactions with our staff. Do they feel that same sense of comfort in approaching us as our patrons do? Or do they dread the times when we want to talk to them about something – fearing they may hear something negative?
Public Library staff will find this training beneficial because, in the midst of our busy days, it can be really easy to lose our focus on guiding those who work beside us – until there’s an issue that needs to be dealt with. Confident coaching can help us avoid those kinds of issues – and I’m all for that!
School Librarians and Media Specialists will appreciate this opportunity to give some thought to how a coach interacts with his or her team – we certainly observe that in our schools, but do we ever stop to consider what successful coaching looks like? This webinar will help us do just that.
Special Libraries will be interested in this workshop because we can get so focused on the specialized needs of our patrons, that we may forget that our staff has a variety of needs. One of those needs is for guidance – and confident coaching can provide the guidance needed to help keep our employees moving forward, growing and learning as they go.
