Cataloging: Moving Images & Video Games

Description:
 This 90 minute instruction session provides basic cataloging instruction for the RDA instructions relevant to moving image resources, including streaming and downloadable video files. Additional treatment of video games includes best practices for titles, game platforms, and vocabulary terms for form and genre. All examples are provided using the MARC 21 Format for Bibliographic Data (MFBD).

Learning Outcomes:
Participants will be able to apply the RDA instructions specific to moving images, including electronic audio forms and Playaway Views. Additional learning outcomes for video games include the treatment of franchise names, encoding of platforms, and variations for digital file characteristics.

Academic Library staff members will be interested in this webinar because they will be able to identify the attributes necessary for quality MARC records supplied by vendors and understand some of the new and changed vocabularies that support linked data.

Public Library staff will be interested in this webinar because they will be able to identify the attributes necessary for quality MARC records supplied by vendors and understand some of the new and changed vocabularies that support linked data.

School Library staff will be interested in this webinar because they will be able to identify the core/minimal attributes necessary in the MARC records.

 About the Presenter:
Bobby Bothmann is catalog & metadata librarian in Library Services at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Bobby catalogs all types of resources, oversees maintenance of the Alma physical resources repository, and leads the library’s textbook affordability and open educational resources work. He holds an MLIS from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee and an MS in Geography and English Technical Communication from Minnesota State University, Mankato. Bobby teaches cataloging for the iSchool at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
