Tom Piazza, award winning author (City of Refuge, Devil Sent the Rain) and writer of the HBO TV series Treme, will lead participants as they uncover the issues that gave birth to the Blues and Gospel genre of music in America. Themes such as economic freedom, oppressive social conditions, women’s empowerment, and the deeply rooted influence of folk music will be discussed.
