Heart of the Matter

One woman, married, with two children, married to a pediatric surgeon, another woman, single, with one boy. They tell their stories, how their lives became entangled because of a little boy's accident, and the love they both feel for the same doctor. Only in the end, do they understand what really matters. Such a great read.  Reserve it!

Rise of Empire

Review
This is the second book of a trilogy featuring Hadrian Blackwater (a retired mercenary and idealist) and Royce Melborn (a laconic thief); they work as thieves or adventurers for hire. The book contains 2 novellas that continue the story from the first book in the series. Thrace, who slew the monster in the first book, is now the empress, but because she is in a fragile mental state she is easily manipulated by the villains of the story. The story really contains several parallel threads: Thrace‚Äôs ability to become an empress in reality, the way a former kitchen drudge named Amilia helps Thrace and grows herself, and the adventures of Hadrian and Thrace as they try to save the few remaining lands from being destroyed by the empire and its goblin allies. The real joy of reading this series lies in the banter between Royce and Hadrian. The ending is a bit unsatisfying in that it is an obvious cliffhanger/set up for the final book in the series.  Reserve it!
