About the Managing in a Brave New World Series: “Brave” and “manage” have always been words that go together. And our world today requires more bravery, more self-awareness, more intentionality than ever before. In this 10-part series, “Managing in a Brave New World,” we’ll delve into many areas of management…and a few areas regarding the manager (that would be you!). These are standalone webinars, so you can attend one or all – and of course, we suggest you attend all to get the most benefit!
Description of this webinar: Relationships with other human beings can be challenging in every area of life. But it seems that “challenging” can become nearly impossible when we are established in our work environments. And yet strong relationships and rapport are key to creating an effective team, so why not be intentional about it?
Academic Library staff will be interested in this webinar because it’s easy to forget about building strong relationships with those around us when many of those around us change frequently. But since know, without a doubt, that strong teams are important, we need to find ways to build them.
Public Library staff will find this webinar beneficial because our patrons tend to like spending time with us. It’s not unrealistic then, to think about the idea that the strength of our team affects the quality of our service – let’s make sure we’re giving our best in both areas.
School Librarians and Media Specialists will benefit from this webinar because we can become accustomed to the constant and ever-changing flow of those we interact with. When we become accustomed, we often become complacent. Strong relationships and complacency are rarely compatible!
Special Libraries will be interested in this webinar because we can easily fall into the habit of being somewhat secluded in our special environments. When that happens, we can take others for granted – and when we take others for granted, we can make assumptions about how we need to interact with them. Strong relationships are based on being intentional about building them!
