Managing in a Brave New World: What do You See? Sharing Your Vision

Event Type: SWFLN Webinar
Date: 6/15/2022
Start Time: 2:00 PM
End Time: 3:00 PM
Description:
About the Managing in a Brave New World Series: “Brave” and “manage” have always been words that go together. And our world today requires more bravery, more self-awareness, more intentionality than ever before. In this 10-part series, “Managing in a Brave New World,” we’ll delve into many areas of management…and a few areas regarding the manager (that would be you!). These are standalone webinars, so you can attend one or all – and of course, we suggest you attend all to get the most benefit!

Description of this webinar: Nearly every strategic plan ever developed includes a vision statement. Yet those lofty and positive statements can easily get lost in the day-to-day of a busy library. Sometimes, we’re not even sure how our day-to-day connects to the vision! Let’s dig deeper to find out.

Academic Library staff will be interested in this webinar because the vision of administration can be quite removed from what the library’s goals are for itself – not opposite, just removed. It’s important for everyone involved to understand the vision of the organization as a whole - and it’s equally important to know what OUR vision is as a library.

Public Library staff will find this webinar beneficial because, although we may have a vision statement printed somewhere (or everywhere!), that doesn’t mean we’ve connected the dots for those who work in our library. How do we do that?

School Librarians and Media Specialists will benefit from this webinar because, even though we know what we want to achieve for those we serve, we may not always express it in a way that others understand or can become engaged in.

Special Libraries will be interested in this workshop because vision can get lost within our special areas. How do we refocus so that we remember why it is we’re doing what we’re doing?
