Cataloging: Three Dimensional & Naturally Occurring

Event Type: SWFLN Webinar
Date: 1/11/2022
Start Time: 11:00 AM
End Time: 12:00 PM
Description:
Termed “artefacts and realia” under AACR2, RDA treats objects such as puppets and dolls, board games, models, and specimens as three-dimensional and naturally occurring objects. The RDA instructions for describing these resources includes identifying attributes such as scale, base and applied materials, mounts, and uses a variety of terms for the extent. Also treats the cataloging of kits, which may include a boxed set of tools and objects that allow the user to create a two- or three-dimensional object, like a model kit or a raspberry pi, or they may be a paring of a book and audiobook for educational purposes, or even a book-club kit. All examples are provided using the MARC 21 Format for Bibliographic Data (MFBD).

Learning Outcomes
Participants will be able to apply the RDA instructions specific to objects, both published and library-made, and distinguish an object with various pieces, such as a board game, from a kit. Participants will be introduced to the concept of aggregates.
